Human beings are hardwired to seek out and make sense of patterns in the world around us. In fact, it is this talent for pattern recognition that enables us to understand our environment, and which sets us apart, intellectually, from other creatures.

For as long as humankind, as we know it, has existed, people have been using this innate pattern recognition to practice the art and science of divination; seeking insight on the past, present and future through the interpretation of natural and man-made phenomena.
