This collection presents a combination of journalistic sketches of London scenes and people along with short fictions. First published by the twenty-four-year-old Dickens under the pseudonym of Boz, they were later revealed under his own name. Dickens's genius for eccentric characters and his novelist's eye for telling details were on full display in this early work.
