One underlying cause of these high numbers may be the failure of the US government to regulate toxic substances. The President's Cancer Panel Report examines the risks posed by the chemicals in our environment, and offers suggestions on what we can do to improve public health and safety. In the strongest words, it urges the President to "use the power of your office to remove the carcinogens and other toxins from our food, water, and air that needlessly increase health care costs, cripple our Nation's productivity, and devastate American lives."
