The title Genesis Genius captures the two complementary and opposing views of how we could live our lives. Genesis, the first book of the Christian Bible, is a metaphor for religious belief and leading a religious life. Genius is the concept that we are all capable and free to choose how we lead our lives. It further proposes that when we express our Genius, our unique skills and talents, we will lead a happy and fulfilled and potentially have a positive impact on others. Since 2001 and the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, the role of religion in leading our lives, has received attention and scrutiny from all quarters of the political and cultural spectrum. What do teenagers make of this discourse on religion and the many blog-hours spent debunking or revering religion? Genesis Genius is a guide for teenagers to help them to decide what is worth keeping and what they could let go of. It helps them navigate the many perspectives and views they will have thrust on them every time they log on to the web and google 'religion'.
Suitable for adults and teenagers alike Genesis Genius starts by looking at religion's impact on teenage life. It then positions religion in all our lives for both young and old. With religion remaining in our cultures for so long, the book then looks at why we believe in gods and how religions have become organised and pervasive in the world. It ends by examining what life might be like if we don't follow a religion. The book looks at what might be possible by believing in one's own Genius rather than believing in Genesis. It concludes with a call to the youth of the world to drive the discourse towards a single global consciousness where all the diversity of human beliefs and knowledge have a place and lead to a better future for all of us.
