There is a unique and profound exhaustion that comes from trying to manage another person's life. It can manifest in the quiet desperation of a parent who, with the best intentions, tries to orchestrate their adult child's career choices, romantic life, and daily habits, only to be met with resistance and resentment. It can be seen in the strained dynamic of a romantic partner who, under the guise of love and care, attempts to "fix" their significant other's perceived flaws, meticulously managing their diet, social schedule, or emotional responses. In both scenarios, the controller is left feeling anxious, frustrated, and perpetually on edge, while the controlled feels suffocated, misunderstood, and infantilized. The weight of carrying another person, their choices, their feelings, their potential mistakes, is immense and ultimately, unsustainable.
