What is beauty? Who is beautiful? Who determines what beauty means? The world as we know it says beauty is a white expression of glamour. White skin, flat hair, thin bodies, and the like has been the standard that we have had to measure ourselves up against. What does that mean for a black woman, a chocolate woman? The internalized negative reflection for black women is real. The ability to see a positive reflection in the mirror is difficult when you can never live up to a standard like that. Brown women have been beautiful since the beginning of time. Our amazing shades, our diverse hair textures, our full features and body, are all beautiful. Racism has planted negative seeds in the hearts and minds of black women all over the world. How do we redeem the beautiful reflection that black women should see when they look at themselves in the mirror? When we look at ourselves through the lens of love that God uses, our internalized understanding and appreciation for our beauty will manifest. In the pages of this book, we will talk about self-love, self-esteem, self-respect, self-worth, and self-affirmation.
