Self-counselling is the first step of positive thinking, and yet, it has nothing to do with actually talking to yourself. Rather, it refers to the idea that we often converse with ourselves in the deep recesses of our minds with the aim of 'talking' ourselves out of the depression. In that conversation, you keep insisting that 'the best is going to happen today, not the worst.'

If you convince yourself that good things will happen sooner or later and that your efforts will pay off in the end, then you have positive thinking. This means that you have now turned your back on negative distractions, weaning your mind of that stress and dread. You will then advance to the next phase, where you begin to approach unpleasant encounters more positively and with hope.

The therapist calls it 'Positive thinking,' but The Whispering Poet calls it Positive Brainwash!
