Deb Haaland was just fourteen when she got her first job at a bakery. She kept working there to help put herself through college. Shortly after earning her degree, Deb gave birth to her daughter. She opened her own business to support herself and her child. After earning her law degree, Deb got involved in politics. There, she has flourished into the leader so many people know her as today. After becoming one of the first Native American women to serve in Congress, she went on to become the first Native American United States Secretary of the Interior. Part of the Notable Indigenous Americans series, this book tells the story of how a young member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe grew up to make American history.
