When their routine medical research produces an unexpected result, Paul and Matt find themselves in a desperate struggle with the aging matriarch of an industrial empire in France. She is convinced that their research will provide massive profits along with international prestige to the hospital she is building as a legacy to her late husband.

Willing to go to any lengths to force the brothers to sign over their research, she has Paul's daughter, Nicky, abducted from a tournament in Beijing. Paul's friend Dr. Tricia Chen helps him race to China, where they learn that the Chinese government also intends to expropriate their research.

To complicate the legal jurisdictions, Nicky has been transported to France. Interpol agent Michelle Denis and Tricia find where she is being held in France, but as the situation escalates, they realize that rescuing Nicky and handing over the research work to either the kidnappers or the Chinese government will not end the situation. They work frantically to produce a solution that will keep them all alive.
