After Janice Martin's husband was killed in a wreck, her friend in Florida asked her to come spend the winter with her in Boca Raton. Janice, not wanting to spend the winter alone, quickly accepted. Several days later as she was packing and sat to grab a bite to eat, she noticed in the newspaper that her high school sweetheart's mother had passed away. She had not thought about Eric Manzino in years, but had heard at a school reunion that he had inherited a huge home on the beach near Jacksonville from his aunt and had a lot of kids. So she decided on the way down to her friend's house that she would stop in Jacksonville for the night and see if she could find Eric's home. How could she have known that her curiosity would change her life forever?
The night she arrived in Florida, she found Eric's gated mansion at the end of the shore, drove by in awe, and then since it was late, she decided to stay in a nearby motel and finish her drive the Boca Raton the following morning. That evening while she was eating her dinner, she glanced up and to her shock, recognized Eric walking in with two body guards following him. He walked straight over to her table. After a strained hello, Eric invited Janice to go sailing with him the following morning on his sailboat so they could catch up on all that had happened to them in the last twenty plus years. Janice hemmed-and-hawed, wondering how he knew she was there, but remembering how much Eric loved to sail, finally agreed to meet him at the decks at eight. She wondered about the guards, but felt from the size and grandeur of his house, that he must now be very wealthy.
The next day leaving everything in the trunk of her car, she walked out on the dock to realize that his once small sailboat was now an enormous sailing vessel. Shock, crewmen helped her on board and seated her in the rear of the boat by Eric. After taking them out three miles and down to a deserted area of the far shore, someone suddenly grabbed Janice and tossed her over board.
Find out how she manages to survive clinging to a buoy for hours, how she is rescued by a coast guard boat, and thanks to the captain is eventually introduced to Jack Campbell his close friend and former FBI agent.
This is the spellbinding story of how Jack helps Janice hid and survive, their passionate love story, and how eventually after Janice just happens to remark to Jack about a guy she sees, that he realizes that the head of the FBI there is involved with Eric, head of the local mob and that this was the reason they had tried to kill her since they knew she knew their long time relationship.
Afterwards, the FBI sends in a new man to their Jacksonville office who has to find out just what is going on without being found out. It's quite an amazing and clever story, a girl he gets involved with, and how eventually all this is solved.
