Saint Anselm of Canterbury was an eleventh century theologian and philosopher. He is regarded as the father of Scholasticism, a philosophical school of thought that dominated the Middle Ages. He is now recognised as the originator of the ontological argument for the existence of God and the satisfaction theory of atonement or redemption. His pioneering theories were significant for presenting a comprehensive system that focused on the interrelationship between God, Jesus and mankind. Delphi's Ancient Classics series provides eReaders with the wisdom of the Classical world, with both English translations and the original Latin texts.
