The cat needs no introduction. These magnificent creatures who are well-deserving of the lifetime of retirement that we provide for them are sometimes TV watching companions, other times they are alarm clocks, or comedians. They are always more in the moment than we are, always ready to provide critical self reflection.

In The Cat King poems and paintings, artist and writer Adam Tramantano offers a poetic and artistic appreciation of cats. While a painting or a poem cannot fully capture the majesty of cats, this collection offers a joyful appreciation.

The paintings were created in 2020, with acrylic paints on unprimed canvas. The lack of gesso means, as the artist says in the introduction "you have to work fast and live with most of your choices." An appropriate approach to rendering the sensitivity and dexterity of this phenomenal species.

The Cat King is at once an overt celebration of the cat with a subtle critique of the human.
