Green Fruit was originally published in 1917, the year the author graduated from Princeton. Crafted with elegant language and vivid imagery, the collection harkens back to the British Romantics of the 18th and 19th centuries. Readers will discover poems about nature, the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, classical figures, and love and loss.

John Peale Bishop was born in Charles Town, WV in 1892. He graduated from Mercersburg Academy and then suffered an unexplained bout of blindness, which resolved itself in time for him to attend Princeton from 1913-1917, where he was a close friend of F. Scott Fitzgerald, who summered with Bishop in Charles Town. After a decade spent in France, Bishop returned to the United States with his wife and three sons and worked for a variety of publications. He died in Hyannis, Massachusetts in 1944.
