In industry, psychology is practiced mainly by line and staff managers, but also by psychologists employed as staff members themselves or, more frequently, staff advisers. When a manager is iriterviewing, or holding a meeting, or having any contact with people, or making assumptions about people, he is practicing psychology whether he recognizes it as such or not. The scope of industrial psychology is therefore the same as the scope of personnel management, that is the entire process of management's dealing with people at work. Industrial psychology differs only from personnel management in that it emphasises the scientific and research aspects of people at work and omits many of the routine administrative details. This work, in two volumes, will prove highly informative and useful to the scholars and academics besides psychologists and psychiatrists.
