Jennette narrates all of this in uncompromising detail in her book Am Glad My Mum Died, just as she records what occurs when the dream is ultimately realized. She quickly rose to stardom after being cast in the iCarly role in the new Nickelodeon series. Jennette is plagued with anxiety, guilt, and self-loathing, which materialize as eating disorders, addiction, and a succession of destructive relationships, whilst Mom is thrilled, emailing fan club moderators, and being on first-name terms with the press ("Hello Gale!"). These problems only grow worse as she takes the lead role in the iCarly spinoff Sam & Cat opposite Ariana Grande shortly after her mother passes away from cancer shortly after that. Jennette is finally able to begin the process of rehabilitation and figure out for the very first time in her life what it is that she wants thanks to the discovery of therapy and her decision to stop acting.

Am Glad My Mom Died is an encouraging story about resiliency, independence, and the joy of washing one's own hair. It is told with the refreshing honesty and black humor that the title suggests.
