Letters to a Greek Goddess is a poignant story that transports readers to a different time.
A time when people trapped in the crossfire of war were beginning to rebuild their lives and learning to live again.
And a time when two young people from different worlds were drawn together by fate.
In the years following World War II, Katherine Papachristos returned with her family from Greece to Salt Lake City, Utah to start their lives over. It was here that fortune placed her in the path of a handsome young Turkish man who was also beginning anew in a strange land. His name was Nick.
Nick came to America as a student after the war to pursue a degree in geophysics at the University of Utah. During an event at the Turkish Consulate in Salt Lake City, he spied Katherine across the room and was inescapably captured by her beauty. Perhaps it was the timing of their meeting or the challenges they faced being from very different cultures, that kept them at a distance.
But no amount of time or distance would prevent Nick from expressing his profound love for Katherine!
In a series of letters that spanned decades, he wrote, and opened his heart to her. He graduated from college, went on to work for a major oil company and travelled around the world, and still, his letters continued to arrive. Even many years later in life as he found himself on assignment in Africa, he wrote to Katherine to describe the rich surroundings of the African continent, his consuming loneliness, and to reaffirm his undying affection for her.
No matter where Nick's life would take him, he carried her with him in his heart.
Katherine and her sister, Thalia, moved to Chicago in the following years, and given her beauty, Katherine soon found work as a model on trendy Michigan Avenue. She and Thalia traveled the world together, and all along the way the letters from Nick would find them. Now, about to celebrate her ninetieth birthday on Christmas Day, Katherine and Nick's story is being shared with the world.
Letters to a Greek Goddess is a vibrant portrait of enduring love, captured and expressed in a unique and unexpectedly fulfilling way.
