After the sudden death of his mother sixteen year old Dan Hargreeves starts experiencing violent and disturbing hallucinations. He has the same dream every night, which involves a red barn with a blue roof whose door he can never open.
He's charged with a child's murder. The body was found in a barn and his injuries are similar to Dan's hallucinations. Compelling evidence places Dan at the scene of the crime, but he has no recollection of it.
He has to find out if he did it or not, otherwise his life is over.
