Terrence Black is a thirty eight year old recovering alcoholic and music obsessive who has never had a serious girlfriend. He meets Angela, a fellow booze addict, through an alcoholism treatment programme. Despite Angela apparently being gay, the two embark on an intense, rollercoaster, sadomasochistic affair where the boundaries between love and obsession and consent and abuse become increasingly blurred. Based very loosely on the authors own private journals, The Angela Suite is a complex, starkly realistic, explicit and morally ambiguous novel that takes both the reader into strange, dark, and previously virgin territory.
