Environmental geography is the branch of geography that describes the spatial aspects of interactions between humans and he natural world. It requires an understanding of the dynamics of geology, meteorology, hydrology, biogeography, ecology and geomorphology as well as the ways in which human societies conceptualize the environment. Geography is, in the broadest sense, an education for life and for living. Learning through geography - whether gained through formal learning or experientially through travel, fieldwork and expeditions - helps us all to be more socially and environmentally sensitive, informed and responsible citizens and employees. Ecology is the study of the interactions between organisms and their environment. Ecologists might investigate the relationship between a population of organisms and some physical characteristic of their environment, such as concentration of a chemical; or they might investigate the interaction between two populations of different organisms through some symbiotic or competitive relationship. This book is a highly informative source on global warming and climate change—issues that are perhaps the greatest threat to this planet. It will be a valuable reference tool for environmental scientists, activists and scholars in the field.
