During the time of Elijah, Ahab's wicked queen Jezebel launched a demolition campaign against the prophetic ministry. She murdered the prophets of God so no one would go against her work. Elijah stood alone and fought against the institutionalization of Baal and Asherah worship in Israel. He accomplished such a big feat, and its effect rippled throughout Israel even when he was gone. Yet, he was "a man just like us"—he had emotions, he had questions. He felt pain, and at one point, his soul became so weary that he wanted not just to quit the ministry, but to die. However, he was able to overcome it all. We can learn many insights and lessons from his life.
