ROBIN WILLIAMS: Laughter, Tears, and Tragedy The job of every good comedian is simple: Make ‘em laugh. Robin Williams did that as well as anyone, ever. His humor was grounded by a very mature understanding that joy is a gift more than a given. The audience gleefully accepted the emotional escape that Williams was always willing to provide because life is often hard. And lonely. And full of sadness. It wasn’t until he was gone that we came to realize just how much Robin Williams felt those emotions, too.
