In an effort to understand the ills of caste inequality in an Indian society that was plagued by this evil, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar compared the teachings of the Buddha and Karl Marx. Even at face value, this comparison is ludicrous. It has been nearly 2,000 years since Buddha and Karl Marx were both alive. According to Ambedkar, the comparison between Marxism and Buddhism is possible and that Marxists may learn much from Buddhism despite their antipathy toward all religions.
