Angels have been the subject of stories and novels since the beginning of recorded history, and humanity is still no closer to finding out the truth about these creatures. Are they sent here to help us? We certainly hope so.
In horror author C. Dennis Moore's "In the Town of Broken Dreams", a stranger shows up in Yellow Brook, Kansas one day and tries to grab one of its residents from her home. Her screams attract attention, and the stranger becomes the target of a hunt through town. The name and purpose he gives suggests he was, as he said, only trying to help, but they don't know that for sure and the town takes matters into its own hands. And that's when the bad stuff really starts.
In the free bonus story, "Angels of No Mercy", Stone is a soldier in the US military, woken up late one night by instincts he's come to trust. But all he finds are nurses tending their patients late into the night. Still, something nags at the back of Stone's head; something's not right, they're not helping them. Not at all. What he learns will change his entire perception of war, and the world at large.
For the most part, it's been depicted in literature as a good sign when an angel appears. But in C. Dennis Moore's hands, nothing is safe or sacred, and, as he shows in these two stories, terror can come from anywhere, even the places you would least expect it.
