What could a young flyer princess learn from a grumpy old elf who seems to criticize her every move?
Ariel has been banished from her Rapha friends for two weeks.
Not content to be idle, the fairy princess uses her time teaching her barbaric
colony some of the new skills she's learned from the elves on the other side of
the valley.
But now, her two weeks are up, and it's time for her to go back
and face Keeper, the Rapha leader who banished her and will be her new teacher.
How can she learn anything from this creature she can hardly
stand to be in the same room with?
The fourth installment in the Year of the Firefly series.
Ariel has been banished from visiting her friends the Rapha, but she has kept busy by teaching her colony learn to find food. At the end of her banishment, she returns to discover that Keeper will be teaching her for the next week. She joins his class of young students and learns about math - a concept unknown to her until this time.
During their week, Keeper is suddenly compelled to go off alone on a quest. The Rapha are confused and concerned until Tanner reminds them that this has happened five times before, and each time when Keeper returned, one of his students were ordained into the Rapha group and given a trait name. When Keeper returns, no one was expecting what he says to them.
At the end of the book, someone for Basil's distant past shows up at Keeper's doorstep with an urgent message for the youngest Rapha member.
