Gerda and Kay are neighbours and best friends. But, one winter's day, Kay suddenly changes for no apparent reason. He is no longer the kind and loving friend that Gerda knows. He has become rude, impatient and intolerant. Why this sudden change?

One day, Kay takes his little wooden sledge to join his friends in the snowy marketplace. All at once, a magnificent sleigh draws up in front of him. Kay is mesmerised. He hooks his sledge to the sleigh and allows himself to be pulled along. But who is the sleigh driver? And where will the sleigh lead Kay?
