Whose reality is being lied about here? Stay up all night reading the riveting psychological thriller that has readers obsessed, written by the author of It Ends With Us, which is currently the number one best-selling book in the New York Times.

When Lowen Ashleigh is a struggling writer on the verge of financial ruin, she decides to take the opportunity of a lifetime to work in the publishing industry. Verity Crawford's husband, Jeremy Crawford, has enlisted the assistance of best-selling author Lowen in order to continue writing the remaining novels in a series that their disabled wife is unable to complete due to her injury.

When Lowen finally makes it to the Crawford residence, she is prepared to sift through years' worth of Verity's notes and outlines in the vain hope that she would discover sufficient material to get her started. What Lowen is not expecting to find in the disorganized workplace is an unfinished autobiography that Verity had no intention of letting anybody read. After page after page of horrifying disclosures, including Verity's recall of the night her family was irrevocably changed, the reader is left with a sense of dread.

In light of the fact that Lowen is aware the contents of the book have the potential to further traumatize the bereaved father, he makes the decision to keep the manuscript a secret from Jeremy. However, as Lowen's affections for Jeremy begin to become stronger, she becomes aware of the several ways in which she would gain from it if Jeremy were to read his wife's remarks. After all, regardless of how dedicated Jeremy is to his damaged wife, the realization of a truth so dreadful would make it impossible for him to maintain his feelings of love for her.
