Thomas West was born in the United States and grew up in Europe, studying in France and in England, where he read literature, art and philosophy, taking a Ph.D. in 1979. After lecturing at the University of East Anglia and at the University of Paris, he helped relaunch the magazine Art International in 1985, and served as its Chief Editor for six years. The title of his lecture is "Using Images to Think: Visual Thinkers and Information Visualization."
