Eugene B. Borowitz is the "dean" of American Jewish philosophers. The Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion recently gave him the title 'Distinguished University Professor,' the first time that title has been awarded at an American Jewish seminary. In 2002 the Jewish Publication Society included him in its Scholars of Distinction series with the publication of Studies in the Meaning of Judaism, a selection of his papers over the past fifty years. Previously the National Foundation for Jewish Culture had bestowed upon him its medal for lifetime Jewish Cultural Achievement in scholarship, for his work in the field of Jewish thought. The title of his lecture is "The Jewish Moral Virtues Today: Loving God."
