Roman thinks his senior year of high school in Albuquerque will be a big party until alcohol takes the life of his best friend. Fearing more trouble, Roman's parents send him to Arizona to live with his uncle and start a new life. Roman meets a drug dealer and a beautiful girl, and he gets a job on a motley crew of alcoholic construction workers that include a big Navajo fighter named Mato; a military dropout who was once a missionary; and Dusty Diamond, a shy soon-to-be father. But Roman's ghostly memory of his dead friend, and his growing addictions as he secretly attends parties, threaten his new life. A dangerous trip to the Navajo Reservation to meet Mato's grandfather gives Roman hope. But can the wisdom of an old medicine man save everyone from tragedy? Not everyone.
