In my long career as a classical scholar of Latin, I have never enjoyed dabbling in a language as much as I have my forays into Romanian. It feels simultaneously ancient and modern, imposing and flexible. It is wonderful.

It is to share my love of Romanian that I have written this vocabulary primer. I believe in learning by doing, following the apprenticeship model of picking up skills on the job. Therefore, this book is full of exercises where you will learn new words and what they mean, all while racking up points and getting to a leaderboard.
