How can you assist a youngster who is sound-sensitive? It's difficult to avoid the noise produced all around us and in us. Additionally, there is no one size fits for sound sensitivity. Some kids are only sensitive to loud sounds, while others are sensitive to sound in general.
All tiny kids may startle and sometimes even cry when they encounter suddenly loud sounds. This is most frequently the case with specific unexpected or louder-than-normal sounds. However, you might have also noted that your infant appeared frightened and responded to familiar sounds. This book tells you about the common occurrence of sound sensitivity in children, so you may learn when to worry before you start to worry.
I'm going to give you a step-by-step approach to assist you in figuring out why your child is so sensitive to sounds and, perhaps even more crucially, how to teach them how to help themselves when they are overwhelmed by sounds. These are the steps I've used while working with kids as an occupational therapist, and they line up with the ones we teach in our sensory sessions for parents.
The final step might surprise you, but it has the power to alter everything completely! (You'll soon learn what it is.)
