In this collection, the poet describes the "evils" caused by the dirty addiction of alcohol and the pain it causes in the family and the society. The poet further emphasizes repeatedly on why it should be avoided, depicting its various distortions and describing the family, social, economic, moral, character and personal decline caused by alcoholism.

His children and wife are affected the most by the man's alcohol addiction. The most shameful of these situations is the passing of their daughter. It is always the woman (be it a daughter, wife, sister) who has to suffer the most in a drunkard's family.

The person does not know when a mere hobby of his started dominating and ruling over him. And by becoming a shadow of terror, one's own life becomes the thorn of the garden. The family and society in which he could groom and make a beautiful garden of flowers turns into a cremation ground for the desires of his companions. They not only bring down their standards, but also destroy the talents of the family and bring them black shadows of frustration.
