In the early 1980’s a group of hardware resellers for large hardware vendors witnessed an increased demand for hardware and software from governmental and not-for-profit clients after the signing of the Oslo Peace Accords, the establishment of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), and the privatization of the telecom sector. This produced a wave of pioneering ICT product and service providers, many of whom are now the industry leaders and thinkers.Today, the ICT sector is increasingly competitive and plays an increasingly important role in the Palestinian economy, accounting for 7% of the gross domestic product (GDP) and contributing $530 million in annual value-add to the economy. It services immediate-shore companies in the region and is working to scale its work with multinational clients such as Intel, Microsoft, Siemens, and Volvo to name a few. Structurally, most sector-related services fall into one of four categories (below) with applications-related information technology (IT) services and contact centre services being the predominant activities currently exported by Palestinian firms to multinational enterprise customers.
