This book documents and analyses the whole process of the third general elections to local bodies in Tamil Nadu. Capturing the political mobilization process of the candidates and the political parties, it examines how women and dalits participated in the election and how they were mobilized. It further visualises the local body elections in comparison with legislative assembly elections, and studies the role of community in the electoral process. The case studies of conducting elections in four Gram Panchayats-Keeripatti, Pappapatti, Nattarmangalam and Kottakatchienthal-also find place in the discussion.
