At Last, The Future! brings together many of the specific changes going on in the world to propose the broad outline of a positive future.
The book also outlines a history of big ideas, or paradigms, that have guided each era, and shows how the collapse of one paradigm and development of a new one is always accompanied by economic and social turmoil.
It explains the current failures and disruptions as the end of an era and argues we can't solve our problems by propping up old ideas. We must, for the first time, think globally, embrace sustainability, and use many new realities to create a happier society.
The writing is laconic and fact based. Self-righteous moralising is not only avoided but condemned, and the history shows puritans of all types to be the enemies of humanity.
And it argues this current transition must be the fastest, most comprehensive and global change of paradigm ever. New politics, and politicians, are required.
