Paul's survival of the incident in Acts28 demonstrates that it was an exceptional occurrence that defied natural laws. Paul might have recalled a story that one of the apostles had just told him. How are you, generation of vipers, serpents, going to escape hell's punishment? You can see that I am sending you prophets, sages, and scribes as a result. You will slaughter and crucify some of them, while persecuting others in your synagogues and from city to city.

Jesus foresaw that the priests of His day would be responsible of persecuting those He was going to send, in addition to warning the priests that their forefathers were guilty of persecuting God's prophets. They included Paul.
