The elves of the East and the humans are the West are embroiled in war. The heart of the East is Prince Ludo, a celebrated hero and dragon rider. Mounted on Barbadu, his faithful dragon, he takes on the airships of the West.
During one perilous battle, Ludo's side sustains heavy losses, and Barbadu is injured. The prince and his dragon (literally) crash into the life of Himiko, a young human who nurses them to health. Himiko is mute, and her past is painful. The only elves she's ever known were slavers, and Ludo frightens her.
