Deep down in His heart, our saviour Jesus Christ was beginning to get an agonizing thought that His physical body weakened as it was by mistreatment, torture, and mockery could go no further with carrying up His cross and with His service of redemption at the top of mount Calvary. He was previously lashed ruthlessly after His trial and had been mistreated and insulted by the Jewish people and the Roman soldiers all the way up the mountain. There was no other aim in His heart than to fulfill His Father's will for the redemption of humanity but suffering as a human being as it was His choice, and without any angelic and supernatural aid, His human strength was just about to falter while carrying the heavy cross, and He felled for the third time out of exhaustion on the stony road.
It was in that moment that Simon, a devotee from Cyrene that was attending Passover in Jerusalem was chosen to help Him carrying His cross to the Golgotha, and that event, and Simon's help saved Jesus from dying of exhaustion right there on the street.
In this short recount, the author shows us a little more information about what we know about Simon of Cyrene, the fortunate man who crossed his eyes with Jesus eyes while helping Him, and the message hidden for all Christians of Simon' live-saving gesture that changed his own life as well while carrying Jesus' cross, up the hill of the mount of Calvary.
And we as followers of Jesus Christ, can we play that script? That of Simon the Cyrene?
