Shade leads a team of hunters deep into the woods at night. But they are not normal hunters, and their prey more dangerous than most people could even dream of. They are hunting vampires. It's dangerous work, but Shade and his siblings have been doing it most of their lives. Helped by magic, they are stronger and faster than normal humans, but they are still humans. They are vulnerable to attacks by vampires, which is why they hunt in groups: solo usually means dead.

With his siblings around him, Shade is not afraid. They are all experienced, and it should be an easy kill. But one of his brothers, the youngest and most anxious to prove himself, rushes in alone to try to be a hero. And in doing so, he sets in motion a chain of events that will change Shade's world for ever.
