In Glasgow, Scotland, ex-cop Samantha Brodie runs a struggling Private Investigations business, but is haunted by a traumatic event from her childhood that resulted in the death of her family. A savage serial killer, thought to be dead after a botched fatal raid, still taunts Brodie in her dreams and is a constant reminder of all she has lost.

In Geelong, Australia, Lauren Scott has joined the local police force after the case in Scotland effectively ruined her career, and her life. She had desperately hoped to leave her demons and humiliation behind, but a series of of vicious killings with an undeniable trademark have her questioning all she ever believed in. The body count mounts and the available evidence points to only one conclusion: The Butcher has returned.
