Lyman Abbott described Silhouettes of My Contemporaries, published in 1921, as "a gallery of shadow pictures." In this volume he traces the careers of his contemporaries, including such figures as P. T. Barnum, Showman; Edwin Booth, Interpreter; and Henry Ward Beecher, Prophet of the Love of God; along with sixteen other great Americans of Abbott's era.
