Manchester, 2011. Lawyer Emily Fowler and her daughter Lily are re-building their lives following the conviction of Emily's husband for attempting to murder her. But as a result of fighting back and almost killing him, Emily faces an escalating hate campaign from an extreme men's rights group – Backlash.

Determined to expose those leading the campaign, Emily joins forces with her solicitor, Julie, to gather evidence about the far-fight conspiracy behind Backlash. Facing increasing danger, as well as unwanted attention from the security services, Emily and Julie confront a stark choice; to see this through together, or split up and risk failure.
