The British soldier, Lieut-Col. Bernard Granville Baker (1870-1957), was an author and painter who specialized in military subjects. He illustrated several books that he wrote, such as "From a Terrace in Prague," published in 1923, a recording of his sojourn in what is now the Czech Republic. Baker is known for his illustrations and watercolour paintings of military subjects, such as "Sir John Moore at Corunna, January 16th 1809" in the 1920s. He exhibited his paintings at Liverpool's Walker Art Gallery and the London Salon between 1914 and 1930, as well as in his hometown of Beccles in Suffolks. He was a Justice of the Peace for Suffolk.
