In early 2017, I was diagnosed with melanoma. In late June of the same year, I went through a 9-hour operation for head and neck cancer. On May 30, 2022, I was formally informed that the tumour was gone, and I officially became a cancer survivor.
I wrote two books to record my experience. The first is called "You Don't Have to Walk Alone." In it, I penned the physical side of my cancer; it became my memoir.
But with cancer, you must deal with what cancer does too, both the physical and one's behaviour. This book you are reading is about changes in my conduct following the malignancy. It is a companion piece to my first book on physical changes.
In the last five years, my body went through a transformation, a metamorphosis or a change in my physical form and way of thinking. The image I like to think about is the change from a caterpillar to a monarch butterfly.
Both are available at www.kobo.com—under Brian Westbrook.
Cancer is a life-altering disease. No question.
