The Hound of the Baskervilles first appeared as a series of short stories in The Strand magazine from April 1901 to April 1902, marking the return of Sherlock Holmes after his apparent death in "The Final Problem" (the last story in The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes). In England's West Country, Holmes and his loyal accomplice Dr. Watson investigate a murder cloaked in the mystery of the legend of the black dog-a supernatural entity out of English folklore. It is considered by many to be the best of the four Holmes novels and ranks among the best-loved novels on the BBC's The Big Read poll. This Warbler Classics edition includes the obituary Maurice Leblanc wrote for Arthur Conan Doyle and a detailed biographical timeline.
