Jason Taggart has grown tired of the town of Wisdom. After learning the purpose to which the town was built he and his fellow students tried to live up to the goals set them. The shadowy Company, though, always changed the goals when the students attained them. Now fed up with the experimentation Jason, his girlfriend Ellen, his friend Drew Barnes and the other students demand changes. With little choice and facing the loss of their Wisdom program, the four directors finally listen and make concessions to their students. Jason knows he'll leave when he turns eighteen but that's still a long time away.
In an attempt to avert catastrophe the directors send the students on a data-gathering mission. Over the course of completing it they discover a vicious vampire engaged, as are they all, in the destruction of human society. Jason and the rest diligently work to prevent this when they discover the vampire isn't alone. Its psychically-gifted bender ally may well make death the best of all choices.
