Our daily life and walk in Christ requires consistency. Sadly, not many who started the Christian race have achieved this consistency; and as a result many have backslidden into the old nature of sin and are out of Christ!

The word BACKSLIDE means:

"To regress, to slip backwards or revert to a previous, worse state"

A backslidden Christian is said to have regressed; slipped backwards and reverted from the Christian life to a previous sinful life and may be worse off.

This regression into the old sinful ways starts with a spiritual attack called spiritual slumber. Many under this attack hardly know they are under attack by the devil who is working hard to get them into the backslidden state. One of the major signs is that they 'll begin to live a pulsating Christian life; they are up spiritually today and down in sin, condemnation and guilt the next moment; their prayer life, fellowship and daily Christian walk is not consistent.

People under the attack of spiritual slumber find themselves easily compromising with sin; what they used to frown at before, they now do easily. The falling away from faith has begun, but they still don't know it. They assume grace covers all.

Such people often have a form of godliness; they speak, talk and act like Christians when they are amongst believers, but deep down inside, they know all is not well; they know the fire that once burned in their spirit for the Lord is gone. They have tried several times to come back, but have failed to maintain the consistency the Christian faith requires.

The good news is that God is equally as interested in His children who have fallen away; who have backslidded; who are under the affliction of spiritual slumber the same way He is interested in souls who have never received Christ as Saviour before!
