In September of 2002, Mexican writer Ernestina Sodi and her sister, actress Laura Zapata, were kidnapped at gunpoint in Mexico City. Both women are members of the prominent Sodi family, and their younger sister, Thalia, is an international pop sensation and wife of music mogul Tommy Mottola. It was Mottola's fortune that caught the attention of the abductors, who aimed to ransom an enormous sum of money from Mottola. Deliver Us from Evil is a few first-person account of the living nightmare endured by the two women. Blindfolded for much of her ordeal, Ernestina Sodi learns to identify the members of this well-organized, brutal, and professional kidnapping gang by voice and smell. Physically and mentally brutalized, Ernestina uses her wits to placate and even befriend members of the gang. In a bizarre development, one of the kidnappers falls "in love" with Ernestina—bringing her flowers and even hiring a mariachi group to serenade her. Plunging listeners into the dark world of crime, rage, and violence without mercy, this real-life drama culminates in a thrilling and truly unforgettable climax.
