The main purpose to publish this book is as an ideal guide for students, undergraduate, graduate and logistician pursuing fundamental courses in shipping and seaport management. This book puts more emphasis on the shipping and seaport management context in which the logistics systems operate and also covers several techniques that have been developed over past decade. It also covers the basic maritime transport features in both the movement of people and movement of cargoes towards lowering of the transportation costs. The dramatic changes in the mode of world trade and merchandise transportation make it more important than ever to have a clear understanding of the way in which cargo is transported by sea using merchant ships and the role of ports in this exchange. This book offers an introduction to the maritime policy and methodological aspects of logistics and transportation systems management and is based on the rich experience of the author in teaching and research. Each topic is illustrated a numerical example so that the reader can check his or her understanding of each concept before moving on to the next one. At the end of each chapter, the learning outcomes are presented to illustrate readers have achieved, and can reliably demonstrate at the end of a chapter, readers will know and be able to do by the end of each chapter. Written by an expert in maritime policy, shipping and port, who provide a truly global perspective on this increasingly key area of maritime management, the book covers everything that students of shipping and port management, as well as those working within the industry should know and understand, including shipping policy and administration, the role and functions of ports and ships in trade, the ports and ships operational structure and the Malaysian maritime cluster perspective. Interestingly, in this book, the practical game of the ship trade is provided to simulate the shipping trade and business in the real world.
