After returning from England to the States, research scientist Stephen Shapiro begins a program known as the Dark Spectrum. He theorizes that the Dark Spectrum are electromagnetic waves in the air that humans could gain access to because they are cellular "antennas". He and research assistant, a man who goes by the name "X" use highly advanced technology known as anthracites to construct suits that can activate the individual wearer's affinity. Shapiro and X test these suits on four college students. The test is a success, but little did these young heroes know Shapiro has a hidden agenda.
